Medical College for Women & Hospital (MCWH)
Medical College for Women & Hospital is a project of the Medical and Health Welfare Trust, established in 1992. The project began with four visionaries – Prof. A.Q.M. Badruddoza Choudhury, Former President and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh; Prof. M.R. Khan, National Chairman; Prof. A. M. Mujibul Haq, Founder Principal MCWH, and Prof. Suraiya Jabeen, Founder, Treasurer, who dreamed of a medical college exclusively for women.

The institute aims to teach selected female candidates for five academic years according to the syllabus of Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC) for an MBBS degree to be conferred by Dhaka University and then impart training of closely supervised internship for one year to create high-quality career doctors for the nation.

MCWH is recognized by the WHO (World Health Organization), MCI (Medical Council of India), Medical Board of California, USA, and listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools and ECFMG (Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates). It is also approved by the Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BM&DC) and University of Dhaka (DU).

Since 2003, the college has published bi-annual, peer-reviewed journals recognized by the BMDC and registered in the ISSN register. The college has a well-developed Medical Research Unit (MRU), which provides broader research opportunities for doctors and the institute’s students.

Medical and Health Welfare Trust (MHWT)

Medical Health Welfare Trust was established in 1992. The trust began with four visionaries – Prof. A.Q.M. Badruddoza Choudhury, Former President, and People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Prof. M.R. Khan, National Chairman, Prof. A. M. Mujibul Haq, Founder Principal, MCWH, and Prof. Suraiya Jabeen, Founder, Treasurer, who dreamed of a medical college exclusively for women which led them to begin the journey of Medical College for Women and Hospital which has an area of 1, 20,000 Sq. ft. (approximately). This whole project is a non-profitable, voluntary, social work & self-income generating.

The legacy of the founding trustee members has been held by the current Board of Trustee Members Sheela Tasneem Haq, Chairman, Mahi B. Chowdhury, Executive Chairman, Mrs. Samira Ahmed, Member Secretary & Treasurer, Mr. Reza Karim, Member Secretary.

Around 1700 MBBS students have graduated from Medical College for Women and Hospital.

The College has two hostels for the students with standard facilities and an in-house gymnasium. It has two libraries; one remains open 24/7. The institute has a full time dedicated, highly qualified, and efficient faculty, doctors, and whose purpose is to provide quality medical education to students, selected according to the government procedure.

With the tagline ‘Committed to Empathy’ the hospital started its journey from 1992. 

The Hospital is a 500 bedded well-resourced hospital and providing both general and specialized services including Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), Neuro-surgical Unit, and Dialysis unit.

The Hospital delivers the laboratory facilities and the immunization facilities to the society. It caters the demand in the Health Services of the people and is providing world-class treatment.

In January, 2008, MCWH has started its own Nursing Institute. The institute is currently running three (3) years ‘Diploma in Nursing Science & Midwifery’ course following the syllabus of BNC (Bangladesh Nursing Council). Around 220 nurses have passed from MCWH Nursing Institute successfully.

The aim of this institute is to provide and train skilled nurse in health sector in our country. The board of trustee is working to improve the health, educational, social and financial status of underprivileged people, particularly or women in our country. The nursing institute is such an organization where individuals are receiving training and contributing to the health sector.

In February, 2016, Uttarkhan General Hospital was established as another concern of Medical and Health Welfare Trust to serve healthcare and medical service to the community. The hospital provides Outdoor Patient Department, Emergency, Pathology Lab and radiology.
